There are several things that you need to consider when wanting to use Minoxidil products like Rogain. Minoxidil is a medication used to regrow hair. It was officially approved by the FDA in 1988.
How does it work?
It increases blood flow to the hair follicle which is what provides the hair with the nutrients and oxygen that it needs to grow.
It keeps the hair in the Anagen (growing) stage for a longer period of time.
It increases the diameter of existing hair follicles. At 12 weeks they can double in size.
Since Minoxidil is a drug, there are some known side effects.
What are the side effects?
Burning and Itching
Redness and Stinging
Dizziness
Rashes
Difficulty Breathing
Changes in dosage or stopping the product all together can make your hair shed and go back to the way it was.
If you are having mild side effects like burning and itching there are other products with Minoxidil in them that have Aloe Vera and other soothing agents that can eliminate these mild side effects. So try a different brand before you give up completely.
All considering, I have seen great results with Minoxidil products but it is a financial and time commitment. You have to stay consistent with the product & take into consideration the side effects.
